One dog, one railway, one heck of an adventure!

Station 142

arriving at 13:14 on a train from Glasgow Central.

Cardonald Station

318256 departing Cardonald station towards Paisley and Gourock.

The very first station here was called “Moss Road” but was only open from 1843 to 1845. The station was rebuilt and reopened in 1879 with two platforms and an extra two fast lines running between the stopping tracks. Only one fast through line remains but it’s still use to increase capacity on the busy Inverclyde line towards the Clyde coastal towns.

Similar to the two Hillington stations just to the west, the large open distance between platforms and maybe the closeness of the M8 motorway makes it feel a very harsh industrial business waiting on the platforms here and a complete contrast to Scotland’s scenic route stations for sure!

Cardonald only has step-free access to the west bound platform. Access to trains towards Glasgow Central is via stairs down from the footbridge.

The station is listed as staffed in the mornings Monday to Saturday providing access to ticket advice and an inside waiting area. There are no toilets.
