Rudy's Railway Adventures

One dog, one railway, one heck of an adventure!

Duncraig

Duncraig

Station 160

Rudy visited Duncraig on
Wednesday, 19th April 2023
arriving at 12:23 on a train from Kyle of Lochalsh.

Duncraig Station

Originally a private halt for Duncraig Castle from it’s opening in 1897 until it became public in 1949 the station was closed in 1964 amongst the Beeching Cuts. Local train drivers didn’t agree with the decision though and continued to stop here until 1976 when it was officially reopened!

The line here runs along right next to Loch Carron and the view from the platform must be one of the best, in fact when we visited a couple had walked from Plockton to sit and enjoy the view for a little while.

158714 departs Duncraig station.

Duncraig is an unstaffed request stop on the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh line..

The single platform has step-free but rough ground access. The waiting shelter has two steps.
