Rudy's Railway Adventures

One dog, one railway, one heck of an adventure!

Plockton

Plockton

Station 161

Rudy visited Plockton on
Wednesday, 19th April 2023
and caught the 16:03 train to Kyle of Lochalsh.

Plockton Station

Plockton was opened with the extension of the railway to Kyle of Lochalsh in 1897. The town is a popular tourist destination and around ten thousand passengers use the station every year. Not bad for only having four trains per day in each direction!

While the Highland Railway station buildings remain and like many on this line are now refurbished for use as holiday accommodation the signal box is actually a full reconstruction in the style of an old signal box.

Plockton is an unstaffed station on the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh line..

There is step-free access to its single platform. The station building is holiday accommodation meaning benches are in the open rather than under the canopy. There are no toilet facilities.
