Newton-on-Ayr Station

Newton-on-Ayr was opened in 1864 on the Ayr and Dalmellington Railway. Although on the Ayrshire Coast Line the station is separated from the coast by a railway junction and goods yard that once brought coal into Ayr Harbour.

The brick station building dates from the 1950s but has been closed for several decades with all the windows and doors blocked up.

Newton-on-Ayr is 45 minutes by train from Glasgow Central and just 5 minutes from Ayr. Platform 1 for trains towards Glasgow is only accessible by footbridge. The station building is no longer open and the station remains unstaffed.
