One dog, one railway, one heck of an adventure!

Loch Awe

Loch Awe

Station 140

Rudy visited Loch Awe on
Sunday, 28th August 2022
and caught the 16:53 to Dalmuir.

Loch Awe Station

Situated on the northern shore of Loch Awe this station was opened in 1880 by the Callander and Oban Railway to serve the little village of Lochawe. A second platform was added in 1902 and both were in use until the station was closed in 1965.

The HITRANS branded waiting shelter at Loch Awe railway station.

Loch Awe was reopened in 1985 using only the 1902 platform which avoided the need for passengers to cross the cast iron footbridge which remains in place.

Camping Coach

There’ an old railway carriage next to Loch Awe station used as self-catering accommodation which follows in the tradition of an original British Rail camping coach available from 1952 until 1960.

More details about the coach can be found at https://scotlandrailholiday.com/

Loch Awe is a single platform station on the Oban branch of the West Highland Line. It lies right on the shore of Loch Awe with views across the water from its footbridge.

The station is unstaffed with no toilet facilities. There is an LED live departures board and a help point for train information. There is step-free access from the car park along a rough, but hard surfaced path.
