Inverkeithing

Inverkeithing

Station 147

Rudy visited Inverkeithing on
Tuesday, 29th November 2022
arriving at 12:12 on a train from Edinburgh.

Inverkeithing Station

The old North British Railway style waiting room at Inverkeithing train station.

The first (1877) station at Inverkeithing was further south but the opening of the Forth Bridge in 1890 changed the route of the main line and a new station was required.

The station building on platform 1 (towards the bridge & Edinburgh) is a traditional North British Railway style while a much more modern structure on platform 2 serves as the current ticket office.

When the new station was built in 1890 it ended up sited at the north edge of the town with Inverkeithing Central Junction just to the north.

The original route north was to the west and Dunfermline, the East Coast Main Line now continues north along the Fife coast. To the south the original line towards Rosyth Dockyards is reduced to a goods branch

Despite the weather, Rudy was out on a full daytrip so he got to have some kibble lunch in the waiting room at Inverkeithing station.

Inverkeithing staff hours are from morning until mid-evening throughout the week. Toilet are open during staffed hours.

There are a couple of vending machines for sweetie snacks & bottled juice.

There is step-free ramp access to both platforms and a ramped footbridge connecting platforms.
