Rudy's Railway Adventures

One dog, one railway, one heck of an adventure!

Gleneagles

Gleneagles

Station 141

Rudy visited Gleneagles on
Thursday, 1st September 2022
arriving at 15:11 from Glasgow Queen Street.

Gleneagles Station

Gleneagles railway station seen from it’s car park.

Originally “Crieff Junction” from 1856. The station was renamed Gleneagles in 1912 by the Scottish Central Railway. When the Caledonian Railway took over they rebuilt the station in 1919 and it must have been very popular for the time because by 1925 they had built the nearby Gleneagles Hotel!

Gleneagles Station is unusual in that its kept the original Caledonian Railway colours rather than being updated to any of the British Rail or ScotRail branding.

THE YEAR OF THE PEACE AFTER THE GREAT WAR

We didn’t wander far at Gleneagles so ended up spending quite a while at the station taking photos and enjoying its architecture. It was such a lovely afternoon and station that Rudy didn’t mind at all.

The waiting room on platform 1 has a collection of framed panels with local history to read which can also be found online at https://www.auchterarderlocalhistory.com/

Gleneagles is between Stirling and Perth. Unfortunately the station isn’t convenient for walking to the village due to a major A road and lots of golf course in the way.

The station is unstaffed but there are toilets available and proper waiting rooms. There are lifts to provide step-free access to both platforms.
The station itself is worth a visit – bring a flask & some biscuits!
