Bearsden Station

Bearsden was opened in 1863 when the short branch line was built to Milngavie. The original station building is now a pub restaurant with it’s modern replacement sitting next to it on the Glasgow bound platform.

The station here was built in New Kilpatrick parish – “Bearsden” was the name of a house where the station carpark is now. When the North British Railway took over the line ten years after opening they successfully encouraged housing to be built nearby and in 1958 the new town council adopted the name of the railway station as the town name!

Rudy’s chosen train journey from Bearsden was one stop along to Hillfoot and as we turned up fifteen minutes early for our train we would have arrived at Hillfoot earlier by just walking 😂

Bearsden is an affluent suburb to the north-west of Glasgow just outside the city council’s limits It’s twenty minutes journey from Glasgow Queen Street on trains towards Milngavie.

There is ramp access to both platforms and a part-time ticket office, but no toilet facilities available.
