Rudy's Railway Adventures

One dog, one railway, one heck of an adventure!

Doocot & Dogs Trust

Rudy outside Glasgow Dog’s Trust

After Greenoakhill, Rudy’s walk at Baillieston took him past a couple of extra places of note. An old dovecot and (much more interesting for little terriers) he passed by the Glasgow Dog’s Trust.

Daldowie Doocot

This Category A listed 18th Century dovecot was originally on the banks of the Clyde within the Daldowie Estate, after the construction of sewage works left it isolated it was eventually removed and rebuilt just off a main road near Mount Vernon station where we took a detour to visit it before our train home.

While the doocot itself has been protected its surroundings are in a terrible state, the “main entrance” is blocked and we scrambled through an overgrown side path instead.

Glasgow Dogs Trust

We had meant to go in search of an old railway line & station near here but Rudy insisted on heading in the wrong direction. I thought he was just keen to get to the active railway and a train home but no, he made a beeline for the Dogs Trust!

Rudy is a rescued dog himself and as a puppy was terrified of the noise and crowds at his stray dog pound in Spain. It was nice that he was now interested in the sounds and smells of the Dogs Trust rather than nervous – they must have some very Good Dogs waiting for homes.
