A proper Railway Adventure at Alloa had us walk down part of the Alloa Wagonway where some of the very first iron rails were used in Scotland - predating the railway proper by almost a hundred years! Rudy visited
Alloa's first station was openened by the Stirling and Dunfermline Railway in 1850. For the first two years Stirling was in the name only. Passengers had to make their own arrangements for the ferry at Alloa Harbour to Stirling. The railway company apparently kept that quiet in their timetable adverts though! The station was closed in 1960 but the line remained for goods trains. The modern 2008 station opened when the line this far resumed passenger services is further east (on a terminus siding) while the now disused line through Kincardine remains in place for now. I have a cheek ticking off Clackmannanshire though, because Alloa is the only railway station in the county!

Alloa Tower
Alloa railway station is a railway station in the town of Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland.
The station was first opened in 1850, and operated until 1968; an 1850 station building was replaced in 1887 by a new building, which was demolished after the 1968 closure and lifting of railway lines.
The Scottish Executive funded a replacement railway line between Stirling and Alloa in the early 2000s, and the station was reopened on Monday, 19 May 2008.
