The Alloa Wagon Way

A walk at Alloa train station.

The Alloa Wagonway predates the railway proper by almost a hundred years. Built in the 1760s between Alloa harbour and the coalfields to the north it meant horses were each able to move about 4 & a half tons along some of the very first iron rails in Scotland.

The town section is now a cycle path that Rudy was happy to walk along all by ourselves without having to push or haul a wagon full of coal 😅
