Rudy's Railway Adventures

One dog, one railway, one heck of an adventure!

Inverurie

Inverurie

Station 73

Rudy arrived at 11:33 on a train from Aberdeen and returned on the 14:32 departure.

Inverurie Station

Inverurie is on the Aberdeen-Inverness line and also acts as the terminus for Aberdeenshire’s local Montrose-Inverurie trains. The station was opened in 1854 and the current Category B listed buildings date from 1902. There is a part-time ticket office under the canopy while the highly recommended Cocoworks coffee shop occupies the southern end including a handful of tables on the station platform itself!

Inverurie Town

The Aberdeenshire town of Inverurie is just north of where the River Ury meets the River Don. The town was originally called Inverury (mouth of the Ury) until 1866 when the spelling was changed due to mail for the town often ending up in Inverary far away on the west coast of Scotland!

The Salmon above the Flood

The Picts placed a stone carved with a salmon in the River Don at its safest crossing point, its meaning clear :
When the salmon could be seen, the ford was passable; when the fish was not visible, the water was too deep.
Alison Simpson, Sculptor, 2003
