The end of a long adventure! By the time we reached Loch Awe station we’d had a long day and despite a fair number of picnic stops on the way we were still in plenty of time for our train home. So what better than one last picnic?!
Secret Picnic Spot
The footbridge at Loch Awe is no longer needed for trains but it is well worth going over to visit this “secret” little garden spot.
This was a very peaceful, sheltered little spot to find with a grass lawn and steps down to a pier. The pier isn’t big enough to enjoy sitting on but worth look to enjoy the closer view across Loch Awe to Kilchurn Castle. We can only imagine what the views from the imposing hotel up above are like!
Lochawe Village
Loch Awe station is at the little village of Lochawe. As well as the imposing Victorian bulk of Loch Awe Hotel there’s also the Ben Cruachan Inn which allows dogs to stay and we’re very tempted to go back & visit again!
Camping Coach
There’s an old railway carriage next to Loch Awe station used as self-catering accommodation which follows in the tradition of an original British Rail camping coach available from 1952 until 1960. It has it’s own private garden area next to our little picnic spot.
Pets aren’t allowed to stay (we suspect due to the vintage furnishings used inside) but more details about the coach can be found at https://scotlandrailholiday.com/
