Hillington West Station

380107 on the fast line through Hillington West.

Hillington West was opened in 1940 just one mile along the Inverclyde Line from the existing Hillington station – mainly to serve the new industrial area to it’s north rather than the residents of Penilee to the south.

Known as Hillington Halt from it’s opening in 1940 until 1952 when it gained West as a suffix. Both Hillington West and East were built while there were four tracks here, the line has been reduced but there’s still a fast non-stopping track through the centre for faster journey times to the Ayrshire coast.

Hillington West is just over ten minutes from Glasgow Central on the Inverclyde Line with trains continuing to Gourock or Wemyss Bay.

The station is listed as staffed on weekday mornings with a sheltered ticket counter. Both platforms have separate step-free access but it’s a long one mile walk around between them to avoid the stepped footbridge.
