Tummel Dam & Riverside
A walk at Pitlochry train station.
Pitlochry is a Victorian tourist town on the River Tummel in Perthshire. The river here is now dominated by the dam of Pitlochry Power Station.
Constructed between 1947 and 1950 it was feared it would damage the tourism industry of the town and area. A pioneering requirement of environmentalism led to an integrated salmon ladder which became its own tourist attraction over the next few decades.
There's now a brand new visitor centre overlooking the dam and river. It was closed when we visited but Rudy was happy to make do with a quick drink of the loch waters and walk along the riverside.
The high up walkway off the other side of the dam wasn't a favourite though!
