The Greenock Cut

A walk between Drumfrochar and Branchton stations.

The Greenock Cut can't be done justice in this small selection of photos. Situated in the Clydemuirshiel park this aqueduct fed water to Greenock's industry and included automatic sluice gates worked by counterweights and buckets with holes in them! Since it's construction during the 1820s the near level footpath alongside it has always been popular for walking. We took the walk up the hill from Drumfrochar and walked about a mile or so before heading down to Branchton station. After this section there's less access via public transport which would require doing the full 8 mile (12km) circuit. For another day!
