River Shin (Lairg)
A walk at Lairg train station.
At Lairg we headed down to the River Shin for a second-breakfast picnic. One of the best "hidden gem" places we've found. A half hidden signpost and gate from platform 1 of the train station leads directly into the woods and onwards via deserted paths to a wee suspension bridge across the River Shin.
A lovely natural beauty spot very representative of the true Scotland. Because even this hidden away rural stretch of river has been engineered 😅
The woods are a forestry plantation, while a historic mill weir downstream and the hydroelectric dams upstream at Lairg itself alter the river flow.
You'd be wrong to think that human intervention has spoiled it though, I spent a lot of the time day dreaming of wild camping to stay longer 🙂
