Rudy's Railway Adventures

One dog, one railway, one heck of an adventure!

Station 77

Rudy walked from Clarkston and then caught the 14:08 train to Glasgow Central.

Williamwood Station

Williamwood train station is located in Clarkston on the southern edge of Greater Glasgow. It was opened in 1929 and considered for closure in the 1980s but now a quarter of a million passengers normally use the station each year.

Willimwood is on the Neilton branch and was electrified in the 1960s, the overhead electric cables carry mean that the footbridge here is of a newer enclosed style than nearby Clarkston. It’s also higher with plenty more steps up & over which we definitely noticed at the end of our day out walking!

Williamwood Bridges

The main entrance to Williamwood railway station on the busy Eastwoodmains Road lies next to two bridges. One is in use for the working railway line but still has the old Strathclyde Transport orange branding along it’s wall, and the second was built for a very short lived curve of track which ran goods trains towards Clarkston station.

Williamwood is a twenty minute train journey from Glasgow Central on the trains towards Neilston. Sadly there is no accessible access here with lots of steps to both platforms.
