Patterton was first opened in 1903 by the Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway. Closed in 1917 it quickly reopened two years later to serve the Darnley rifle range.
Originally in open countryside the station now serves the northern side of Newton Means just outside the Glasgow City boundary.
Patterton is 25 minutes from Glasgow Central on trains heading to Neilston.
The station is unstaffed with only bus shelter type waiting areas. Step-free access is only available to the Glasgow bound platform 1 with a footbridge connecting to platform 2.
