Rudy's Railway Adventures

One dog, one railway, one heck of an adventure!

Mount Florida

Mount Florida

Station 66

Rudy caught the 14:33 train to Glasgow Central after walking here from Crosshill.

Mount Florida is in the south side of Glasgow. The area & station takes its name from the “Lands of Mount Floridon” rather than any connection to the American state of Florida. Mostly a residential area except for Hampden Park Stadium where international football and other large sporting & music events mean the station can see more than 1.3 Million passengers each year!

When first opened on the Cathcart Circle line in 1886 this was the terminus station. Two months later the rest of the line was complete and through trains began running to Cathcart. The line was electrified in 1962 and a lift installed in 2008 to provide step free access to it’s island platform.
