Station 155Rudy visited Inverness on
Sunday, 16th April 2023
arriving at 12:14 on a train from Aberdeen.
Inverness Station
There’s been a station here in the centre of Inverness since 1855 when the Inverness and Nairn Railway built an isolated section of tracks between the towns as a precursor to joining the rest of the emerging rail network.
While the station site has never moved the current station building is a 1960s British Rail construction augmented by new ticket gates and an even newer Costa cafe – Rudy’s favourite because this is where sandwiches are bought & eaten when he changes trains here!
Rudy had already been to Inverness a few times changing trains but this was his first “proper” visit to the station with time for a dog walk.
Inverness station is a major city-centre station fully staffed throughout the day with trains direct to all Scottish cities as well as north to Wick & Thurso and west to Kyle of Lochalsh. Oh, and also to London.
There is step-free access to all platforms and facilities including toilets and left luggage lockers. There is a shop, a coffee place and a bar.
