Invershin
Station 85
Rudy arrived at 10:46 on a train from Golspie and took a walk across the nearby viaduct to Culrain.
Invershin Station
Invershin railway station was opened in 1868 on the Far North Line, it lies just on the north side of the Kyle of Sutherland. The station only saw 216 passengers in 2019-2020 making it the third least used station in Scotland!
Rudy visited on a beautiful autumn day as part of his holiday in nearby Golspie.
The station building at Invershin is in a very ruinous state and is thought to be in private ownership. With the local area being very sparsely populated and lacking facilities it’s difficult to imagine it being restored or repurposed.
Invershin Village
Invershin is a very scattered village along the main road here which we didn’t see anything of at all except the Invershin Hotel & Bunkhouse – online reviews suggest it also boasts a very friendly bar!
Invershin is a request stop just over an hour & a half’s journey from Inverness on the Far North Line. There is a live train departures screen and also a small concrete waiting shelter with telephone help point.
