Hamilton West
Station 105Rudy visited Hamilton West on
Wednesday, 2nd March 2022
and caught the 14:45 train to Glasgow Central.
Hamilton West Station
Opened by the Caledonian Railway in 1849 as Hamilton’s first station it gained it’s West suffix when Hamilton Central was built while extending the railway towards Motherwell in 1876.
Originally a terminus the station was seen as inconveniently far from the town but it’s since become the closest for Hamilton Park Racecourse and the Hamilton Academical football ground.
The Hamilton West totem pole sitting in the trees on platform 2 was created in 2017 by three different community groups collaborating without ever meeting! It’s looking a bit weathered now but it’s still something special to look out for if you visit or go past on a train 🙂
Hamilton West is just over half an hour by train from Glasgow Central on trains towards Larkhall or Motherwell. There is ramp access to both platforms.
There are toilets available but only when the ticket office is open.
