Helensburgh Upper Station
Opened in 1894 by the West Highland Railway this is the lesser used of the two Helensburgh stations – only being served by trains to & from Oban, Fort William and Mallaig. The Caledonian Sleeper also stops here but far too early for Rudy!
The railway here diverges from the North Clyde route not long before Helensburgh Upper – making it the first station from Queen Street that is served exclusively by trains running the West Highland Lines route.
Originally an island platform only one track remains with the northern trackbed raised up to platform level which, alongside a number of mature trees and bushes, helps give a lovely garden feel to the station.
The covered ramp from street level is an original feature of the station but the centre-platform station building no longer exists.
Friends of the West Highland Lines has a feature page about Helensburgh Upper at https://westhighlandline.org.uk/helensburgh-upper/
Helensburgh Upper is forty minutes from Glasgow Queen Street on West Highland Line trains to Oban, Fort William and Mallaig.
The station is unstaffed. There are no toilets and no fully enclosed waiting shelters. The ramp from street level provides step-free access to the single platform.
