Hillington East Station

Hillington East station building from the footbridge.

Known as just “Hillington” from it’s opening in 1934 until 1940 when it gained East as a suffix. Hillington is on a southwestern edge of Glasgow City with much of it’s industrial estate crossing the border into Renfrew council area.

The station was built as part of the Glasgow and Paisley Joint Railway when the Glasgow, Paisley and Greenock Railway and the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway companies were refused permission for competing parallel lines and were forced to cooperate!

Hillington East is just under ten minutes from Glasgow Central on the Inverclyde Line with trains continuing to Gourock or Wemyss Bay.

The station is listed as staffed on weekday mornings with a small ticket counter. Both platforms have separate step-free access but it’s a long one mile walk around between them to avoid the stepped footbridge.

The south entrance to Hillington East is on Chirnside Road.
