Gilshochill
Station 6223rd September 2020
Rudy arrived at 12:43 on a train from Maryhill and took a walk through the Western Necropolis.
Gilshochill station in North Glasgow was opened in 1993 with the reintroduction of passenger services along the Maryhill Line. Originally called Lambhill it was renamed in 1998 to become one of the most mispronounced stations in Glasgow. A train driver who worked the route in the 1990s told us he knew what a lamb was but had never seen a gilshoc!!
This is one of Rudy’s favourite stations, usually very peaceful and often used as the beginning for his adventure days! Situated in a deep cutting there’s unfortunately no step-free access here for the almost 200 daily passengers.
