Glenfinnan Railway Station

✓ Station Visit 55

The forecast was for freezing fog right up until the night before when it changed to bright and clear so we took the chance and it really did work out so good! Rudy visited Glenfinnan on the 6th of February 2020 arriving at 12:45 on a train from Fort William.

Glenfinnan station was opened in 1901 on the Mallaig Extension of the West Highland Railway. The nearby movie-famous Glenfinnan Viaduct means hundreds of tourists visit the station each day in Summer but visiting in February meant we had the place (almost) to ourselves. The Jacobite Steam train visits here in summer and the station building houses a railway museum. Rudy took a walk to the nearby viaduct & monument on a surprisingly nice February day meaning he got to picnic looking out over Loch Shiel!
