Rudy's Railway Adventures

One dog, one railway, one heck of an adventure!

Dingwall

Dingwall

Station 156

Rudy visited Dingwall on
Sunday, 16th April 2023
arriving at 13:26 on a train from Inverness.

Dingwall Station

Dingwall was opened in 1862 as the northern terminus of the Inverness and Ross-shire Railway. It wasn’t long until the railway expanded further though and the station is now just south of the junction taking trains either on to Wick & Thurso via the Far North Line or westwards on the Kyle of Lochalsh line.

The station buildings are original 1880s construction with a large canopy on the main town side. There’s also a pub right on the station platform which surely provides an “atmosphere” for the later trains on a Friday & Saturday evening!

158720 departs Dingwall station.

Dingwall is half-an-hour by train from Inverness. The ticket office is meant to be open from morning until after lunch with toilet facilities available during opening hours.

There is step-free access to both platforms albeit with an open lattice footbridge connecting between them.
