Opened in 1896 by the Lanarkshire and Dunbartonshire Railway the entrance to Dumbarton East is below itself on Glasgow Road.
Dumbarton East is 25 minutes from Glasgow Queen Street and just two minutes from the busier station at Dumbarton Central.
The station is unstaffed. There is no step-free access to its island platform.
