Arrochar & Tarbet
Station 144Rudy visited Arrochar & Tarbet on
Monday, 19th September 2022
arriving at 11:59 on a train from Glasgow Queen Street.
Arrochar & Tarbet Station
Opened in 1894 by the West Highland Railway, Arrochar & Tarbet station lies between the two villages. Arrochar at the head of Loch Long and Tarbet on the western shore of Loch Lomond.
The island platform at Arrochar & Tarbet is accessed via steps up from an underpass – it’s a fair hike up for a wee terrier after running around the woods all afternoon!
The Arrochar, Tarbet & Ardlui Heritage Group has a web page dedicated to the Navvies who built the railway here. http://www.arrocharheritage.com/Navvies.htm
The view from Arrochar & Tarbet station is quite spectacular but as always Rudy is more interested in where the train home will arrive for a good sleep on.
Arrochar & Tarbet is an unstaffed station on the West Highland Line section between Glasgow and Crianlarich.
There is a single island platform with the only access being steps up from an underpass. There are good enclosed waiting “huts” fully protected from the weather. There are no toilets.
