9am Sunshine!
Rudy visited East Kilbride at the beginning of August 2022 during a mini-heatwave in Scotland. Leaving before breakfast and returning for mid-morning meant Rudy got to enjoy a little bit of the sun at least!
The Show Park
A large gently sloping greenspace in East Kilbride, the Open Cattle Show Society annual farm show was once the largest in Scotland – it’s moved to the outskirts of the town as it’s grown but this is the original site from the 1720s kept as a greenspace. It’s a fantastic place for dogs to run around and socialise.
Old Railway Path
From the late 1800s until into the 1960s the railway at East Kilbride continued eastwards to Blantyre. After the wide open space of the Show Park Rudy took a walk along a sort shaded section before the day got too warm.
The path starts along the edge of The Show Park before becoming more enclosed for a half-mile shaded walk. It continues as an on-road cycling route but not so good for dogs after this short section.
Rudy wasn’t happy that we turned to head home so soon but with the temperature rising fast even his best asking face wasn’t enough. Home on air-conditioned trains for a midday sleep in a cool shaded room. It’s a dog’s life!
