The Strathspey Railway is a heritage line running from Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands.
It was once part of the original main line to Inverness and a short 10 mile section has been preserved.
Rudy took a round-trip from Aviemore to Broomhill with a break of journey at Boat of Garten on the way back for a little riverside walk.
When asked what his favourite train was Rudy hinted that he likes anything with lots of sandwich crusts hidden under seats but we think steam trains make better photos.
Aviemore Station
Aviemore station is unique in Scotland that both main line trains and the heritage railway use the same station.
Boat Of Garten Station
Boat of Garten is the watering point for steam engines running on the Strathspey Railway so outward journeys always have time to step out and take a few photos of the train or the original 1904 station building.
Broomhill Station
Broomhill is the terminus of the Strathspey Railway although current plans are to extend the heritage line on to Grantown.
The platform building here is a replica but the stationmaster’s house still stands and can be seen when trains past the station to turn back.
The Strathspey Railway runs Tuesday to Sunday with a long summer season from April to September.
Their website can be found at https://www.strathspeyrailway.co.uk/Dogs are allowed to travel in the standard seating coaches but the trains can be very busy on popular days so it’s best to book their tickets in advance.
