The Plock of Kyle is the peninsula to the west of Kyle of Lochalsh. It’s very varied with some woodland, wildflower meadows, small rocky bays and a wee hilltop moor with views of the surrounding land & lochs. Lots of walking path options make it a great place to visit!
From Moor to Woodland
Rudy started his walk around The Plock from Kyle of Lochalsh village which starts of as moorland around a small hill, the paths are firm gravel but not sign-posted to start with and we almost missed our planned route to see the 360 degree views!
Coming down from the hill the paths become sign-posted and wind through woodland and give options to explore the rocky shore of several small coves. The community supported nature of the area is especially evident when stumbling across small artworks & crafted picnic spots.
Gorse Forest & Picnic with a view
We walked all round the edge of The Plock so got the chance to go along the lesser used paths such as the ones through some of the tallest and thickest gorse bushes we’ve seen!
Almost at the far western edge of The Plock is a sheltered little cove with a carved bench where we set up for our picnic. Rudy enjoyed some rock-pooling but also digging around in the rubbish left by previous visitors campfire. The view across to Skye was incredible!
