Designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh in 1902 the Hill House in Helensburgh is now part of a unique conservation project.
After a more than a hundred years of Scottish Weather the walls of the house had absorbed too much water and were starting to dissolve! The house is now covered in its own “box” – a steel roof & frame with chainmail sides which will allow the building inside to dry out.
Rudy visited too early in the morning to get into the Hill House grounds but he was fairly convinced that we could sneak in the back gate.
He did give up when we told him the cafe wouldn’t be open yet either and he’d just have to stick to his own breakfast picnic today.
The Hill House is a National Trust for Scotland property and offers a unique visitor experience including walkways around (and even over!) the house for people who don’t mind heights.
