A visit to Glasgow’s “secret loch”.
St Germains Loch in Bearsden is a curiosity. There’s very minimal public access to the loch with it being surrounded by residential properties stretching right down to the water’s edge. This “private loch” in a very affluent area of Glasgow doesn’t sit well with Scotland’s open access ideals so it deserves a visit for no other reason than that.
The surrounding property includes some very posh houses with estate agents encouraging this idea of exclusivity to push prices up for their own benefit – the loch is often dragged into that “exclusive” marketing which is a shame.
Our chosen route to the lochside was the path from the back of some flats, it’s not advertised but it’s there for use so we used it.
Rudy’s conclusion: it’s a very boring bit of water, should have gone to the park instead!
Another curiosity about Rudy’s visit to Bearsden was that every single train from his home station was cancelled on a day he had bigger adventures planned! Forced to start by bus but pleased that it was a fancy new electric double decker bus though 🙂
