Rudy's Railway Adventures

One dog, one railway, one heck of an adventure!

Rouken Glen

The south entrance to Rouken Glen Park is directly next to Whitecraigs train station. Rudy visited lots of the park before catching a train back to Glasgow Central but at 143 acres he had to leave some of it unexplored for another day!

The Boathouse

The boating pond and boathouse at Rouken Glen date from 1923 but there are no boats here now. The popular Boathouse Cafe has taken over the building with the pond itself left to the birds. Rudy has been lucky enough to share a poke of chips or an ice-cream from the cafe on previous visits!

The pond can suffer from blue-green algae at times so it's just for looking at and walking round - absolutely no dogs swimming or drinking!

Glen Walks

The Auldhouse Burn runs through Rouken Glen Park with a selection of paths that follow its course. At the top end of the burn there’s a man-made waterfall over a weir & small reservoir that once helped power printworks downstream at Thornliebank.

Formal Lawns & Informal Meadow

Rouken Glen is large enough to have several distinct areas. Near the main entrance is a large children’s play area and a quiet walled garden while the rugged burnside walks meander through the centre of the park. The burn divides a large open formal grass area from a less formally maintained meadow area to the west. Rudy chose to run around the meadow and people (dog) watch in the open lawns.

The park was gifted to the people of Glasgow in 1906 but as it falls outwith the current City boundary it’s currently looked after by East Renfrewshire Council!

Rouken Glen Park has three sets of public toilets available and most of the paths are accessible for all abilities with the exception of the meadow area and some steep stepped options down to the burn side.

The park has it’s own website at https://www.roukenglenpark.co.uk/
