Reston is a small village in the Scottish Borders. It has a brand new railway station and a lovely riverside walk.
Riverside Project
The Reston Riverside Project is a volunteer group which has created a really nice community riverside area along the Eye Water. The entrance is between two high garden walls opposite the road to the train station, through a small wood and across the bridge.
We took a there & back walk along the riverside path which took us to only about a mile and the paths are so well looked after it was a very easy walk but Rudy fair enjoyed running ahead and back when I was slow to catch up!
Eye Water
The riverside path at Reston is mostly set back from the edge of the water but there are a couple of places to get down to the water’s edge itself. Very handy for thirsty dogs wanting a cool drink on a warm day.
The riverside also has a very good children’s play area (out of bounds for dogs) and this fantastic covered community meeting place – apparently used for many barbecues and kids birthday parties but no cake crumbs that Rudy could find!
Reston has a community web site at www.restonscotland.com/
The Riverside Project area is fantastically well designed, laid out and looked after and there is a small donation box on the bridge post so do leave a pound or two if you can.
