Vising the Firth of Clyde Shoreline at Craigendoran and Cardross.
A busy adventure day for Rudy had meant an early start and breakfast at Helensburgh. The weather became very warm even by mid-morning so our walk plans were shortened to give more rest time.
Luckily we were visiting stations right on the Firth of Clyde shoreline with views across & doon the water!
Craigendoran Shore
Craigendoran is on the eastern edge of Helensburgh town. We met a small dog-pack walk here so Rudy got to do some socialising and play chases for a little while but it was clear what he really wanted to do was just lie in the sun! We rested by the old pier which was used by Clyde Steamers connecting with trains that once upon a time pulled up into a dedicated platform.
Cardross Picnic
Cardross is a small village on the Firth of Clyde, the modernist ruin of St Peters Seminary is nearby which we’re sad to have missed but it is very closed to visitors just now. Rudy was happy enough to find a grassy strip with picnic benches between the railway and water which was ideal for a more chilled out exploration before yet another little sunbathe!
Yes it can get too hot for dogs in Scotland!
Rudy spent his first few months as a puppy dog in the south of Spain but he still feels the heat like all dogs.
We avoid exercise in the sun during the middle of hot weather days and stop frequently in the shade if walking.
When we rest we always have fresh water for him and always a shaded spot nearby for him to choose – but he really does love lying in the sun for as long as he can!
