After our adventure scrambling up the path from Falls of Cruachan towards the dam we decided to take the easy way down via the access road towards Loch Awe.
There was lots of evidence of sheep (spread all over the road!) but only one stood close enough to keep an eye on what the little terrier dog was doing. Rudy isn’t really interested in sheep and is very calm around them but he does take a strong interest in their smelly smelly leavings so that’s an extra important reason to be kept on lead!
Loch Awe Views
With the dam and power station nearby there are of course a number of electricity pylons and lines across this side of Ben Cruachan but it’s still spectacular scenery here. Heading down along the road was definitely the more relaxed opportunity to take photographs.
The Road
The road here is in private use to access the dam and power station which means it’s very well surfaced with extremely low traffic. It’s only around three & a half miles (5.5km) between dam & loch but we still took advantage of a couple shady spots to rest while younger hikers sped past!
It was such a lovely afternoon after our very early start and we had more than enough time to get to our train home so when we found this tree Rudy decided it was time for a mid-adventure nap! Sometimes dogs have the absolute best ideas.
During our walk along the private access road we only saw two or three walking groups, a couple of cyclists, and just one vehicle (two or three times!) It was clear the driver was used to meeting walkers on the road and passed us with caution and courtesy. It’s still important to remember it is a road even if it feels unused and to be aware of approaching traffic from either direction.
