Shotts Railway Station

✓ Station Visit 247

An overdue visit to the station that gives its name to the entire Shotts Line but we've ticked it off at last. Rudy visited Shotts on the 4th of November 2024 arriving at 13:50 on a train from Glasgow Central.

Shotts station was opened in 1869 and the original building remains. It's the last Lanarkshire station on the route before the rest of the line traverses West Lothian into Edinburgh. The Shotts Line connects Edinburgh to Glasgow Central but is rarely used for complete through journeys as it's quicker to catch express services from Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street and walk to Central!

Shotts railway station is a railway station serving Shotts in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located on the Shotts Line, 20½ miles (33 km) east of Glasgow Central towards Edinburgh Waverley. It was opened by the Caledonian Railway in 1869 as one of the principal stations on their Cleland and Midcalder Line.

Shotts station is the last stop in the SPT area boundary before the train enters West Lothian. There is a large car park in part of the former goods yard.
