The earliest Montrose station was opened in 1848 as a branch line terminus off the Caledonian Railway's routes from Aberdeen. The current station was opened by their rivals the North British Railway in 1883 and despite being less convenient for town passengers it was given the name Montrose Central while both were in use. The new station was far more convenient for trains though being on what is now part of the East Coast Mainline and this is the station that survives today albeit with a new 1980s station building and modern footbridge with lifts.

Rudy's Adventures at Montrose

Montrose station walks and places to visit.

Montrose railway station serves the town of Montrose in Angus, Scotland. The station overlooks the Montrose Basin and is situated on the Dundee–Aberdeen line, 90 miles (144 km) north of Edinburgh Waverley, between Arbroath and Laurencekirk. There is a crossover at the north end of the station, which can be used to facilitate trains turning back if the line south to Arbroath is blocked.
