Twenty minutes from Inverness on the line towards Dingwall is Muir of Ord. Opened in 1862 the station is fairly sparse these days which belies it's importance to the railway. Between 1894 and 1951 this was a junction with a line towards Fortrose on the Black Isle peninsula. In 1989 it was used as a temporary terminus after a railway bridge washed away isolating the lines north
