Opened in 1873 by the Glasgow, Barrhead and Kilmarnock Joint Railway and closed (you guessed it) in 1966. The current station is a complete 1984 rebuild on the original site albeit with only one platform. The platform was lengthened in 2009 but the station still isn't quite future-proof, the platform sits on the route of the original second track restricting the option to redouble the line if extra capacity was needed.
