Insch station was opened in 1854 on the Great North of Scotland Railway route from Aberdeen to Keith although the line now extends to Inverness. The station building dates from 1880 and the waiting shelter on the opposite platform is also in the original GNSR style. The cast iron footbridge keeps to the traditional character of the station but leaves one platform without step-free access. Work to extend this platform in 2019 was unable to accommodate a ramp to the road and level crossing due to the old water tower foundations! I'd been looking forward to visiting Insch for a long time and we really enjoyed our exploring there so it deserves a second set of pictures! Photos 5 & 6 are (more than) hints to where Rudy went walking :D We returned to the station a good half hour early, tired and not wanting to miss the Sunday afternoon train home so I took more photos than normal. We unfortunately didn't manage to visit the wee museum because its opening hours were well between the Sunday trains we could catch, open too late and closed too early for explorers.
