Rudy visited Dalgety Bay on the 3rd of June 2024 arriving at 12:32 on a train from Edinburgh.

Dalgety Bay is a "new" station on the coastal section of the Fife Circle line. It opened a mere quarter of a century ago in 1998! Donibristle Halt was near here for a few years in the 1940s & 50s named after a Royal Naval Air Station. The airfield closed in the 1960s and the land developed as an industrial estate and then as housing for a new commuter town, Dalgety Bay. One estimate had thirty percent of its population working in Edinburgh after the train station was opened

Letham Hill Wood

At Dalgety Bay station we headed for Letham Hill Wood on the western edge of the town. The narrow ridge isn't at all a Big Hill but it's enough to stop built development and so creates a preserved green belt between Dalgety Bay and Inverkeithing.

Fife Coastal Path

Our walk from Dalgety Bay took us down to the Fife Coastal Path where there are good views of a railway viaduct you might recognise! We also took a look (from a safe distance!) over the flooded Prestonhill Quarry and got to enjoy a rest in Ballast

Dalgety Bay railway station serves the town of Dalgety Bay in Fife, Scotland. Lying on the Fife Circle and EdinburghｰDundee lines, it is managed by ScotRail. It is currently the nearest railway station to Fordell Firs Camp site, the Scottish national headquarters for The Scout Association in Scotland, part of Scouting in Scotland.
