Corkerhill Railway Station

✓ Station Visit 198

Rudy visited Corkerhill on the 18th of September 2023 arriving at 12:46 on a train from Glasgow Central.

Opened in 1896 as a private halt for railway staff at the nearby Corkerhill Shed (now Depot). By the mid 1920s enough housing had been built that the station was opened to public passenger services. The station is on the Paisley Canal Line just over three miles from Glasgow Central and like others on the route it was reduced to a single platform after several years closed during the 1980s.

Corkerhill station walks and places to visit.

Corkerhill railway station serves the Corkerhill and Mosspark neighbourhoods of Glasgow, Scotland. The station is managed by ScotRail and lies on the Paisley Canal Line, 3ΒΌ miles (5 km) west of Glasgow Central.

The station was originally a staff halt on the Glasgow and South Western Railway, with a small network of houses having been built for workers at the Corkerhill Carriage Servicing Maintenance Depot (opened 1896); eventually the isolated village was swallowed up by the expanding Glasgow urban area with the construction of the Mosspark, Cardonald and Pollok estates. The station was opened to the public in 1923 and was rebuilt by British Railways in 1954.
