Burntisland station was opened in 1847 as the southern terminus of the Edinburgh and Northern Railway - a ferry service took passengers across the Forth to & from Edinburgh. The current station is on an immediately adjacent site, moved after the line was altered to fit with the Forth Bridge opening in 1890.
